- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tablespoons ground flaxseed or 5 tablespoons applesauce
- 5 tablespoons water (for the flax, separate from the sugar water)
- 1/2 cup oil
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 3/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (gluten-free optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- In a small bowl, whisk flaxseed with water (if using) and set aside.
- In a medium pot, combine sugar and water; heat until sugar dissolves completely.
- Mix dry ingredients in a large bowl, then add the dissolved sugar mixture along with oil and vanilla.
- Stir until combined; fold in chocolate chips gently.
- Pour batter into an 8×8 baking pan lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 35–42 minutes until a toothpick comes out with minimal crumbs.
- Allow cooling completely before slicing.
